Hôm nay, mình sẽ giới thiệu với các bạn bài luyện phát âm tiếng Anh chuẩn cùng Ms Hoa TOEIC - Âm /u:/ và /u/ để dễ phân biệt khi giao tiếp.

Hello everybody! It’s me again. And I’m very happy to be here again today and to share with you a new lesson of Pronunciation. As you know, Pronunciation is very important in speaking English. A sentence with some grammar mistakes but correct pronunciation is still understandable. However, if you pronounce a word incorrectly, people may misunderstand, or even wores, not understand you at all. So I’m here to give you solutions to improve your English Speaking skills. Let’s look at our lesson today!
First of all, I’m going to give you a phrase we use everyday when want to say Good bye to someone. We use it all the time, but are you sure you’re using it correctly? Let ‘s wait till the end of the video to find out! As you can see, I have listed some pairs of words. Do you think there are any differences between these pairs?
Ex:
- Food – foot
- Fool – full
- Pool – pull
- Shoot – should
- Suit – soot
- Luke – look.

Let’s try to spend 1 minute to try pronouncing these sounds in your own way. And I’ll be waiting for you. Any difference? OK, let’s look at the first pair. Even though thay both have 2 letter “O” in the middle.
- Ex: Food – foot /fu:d/ - /fut/
The way they are pronounced are completely different. Let’s listen to me. The first word “Food” is pronounce with the long /u:/ sound. The /u:/ sound may take as many forms as: (as in food, fool).
Ex:
- Food - /fu:d/
- Fool - /fu:l/
- Suit /su:t/
- Luke - /lu:k/
Or it can also be “ui” as in “suit”, and “u” as in “Luke”. And in the dictionary, they are written as the letter “u” and the colon (:), as you can see on the screen. To pronounce this sound, your lips should be rounded and forward, as you sightly blow air through your mouth. /u:/. Many students fall to keep te sound long enough. So remember to maintain the sound to keep it nice and long. Now let’s practice with me.

- Shoot – Suit – Luke.
Very good. Now let’s move on to the next sound – the short u /uh/ and it is often written like this in the dictionary. So how do you pronounce this sound? Very easy. For this sound, your lips are more relaxed as you produce a very short and quick sound like this /uh/. Now let’s listen and compare!

- Foot /fut/ - Food /fu:d/
- Full /ful/ - Fool /fu:l/
- Pull /pul/ - Pool /pu:l/
- Should /Shuld/ - Shoot / Shu:t/
- Soot /sut/ -suit /su:t/
- Look /luk/ -Luke /lu :k/

Do you still remember the phrase I gave you at the beginning of the video? Let’s look at it again!
- Ex: Good bye! See you soon!
In this phrase, “goo” and “you”, it is pronounced with the short /u/ and “soon” has the longer /u/. And when you speak this sentence, the stress in put on “bye” and “soon”, so the “good” and “see you” are shortened.
